He was as magnetic as a deadly hurricane to the shore.
Carson Cole was my first love. The boy I'd shared my whole self with.
He was the man who'd taken the other part of my soul and drowned it in the sea we'd grown up in.
And now he's back. Ten years later, and the demons of our past are still haunting every breath trapped between us.
She was as wild as the horses who owned the beach highways we drove down.
Blake Sayer was the beautiful daredevil who had me wrapped around her finger from the time we were seven.
Until a horrible accident stole every piece of joy from her life.
Ten years later, she's a shell of the girl she once was, and it's all my fault. The whispers of our history shackle her to the island I left behind.
Just like lost years and unspoken words, love had slipped from our fingers like grains of sand. We’d barely made it out alive last time, was it even possible to reconstruct the shattered pieces of us?
All I can say is WOW! Carrie's writing skills have greatly increased with this book, and she's only getting better with each one I read. Well written, sexy, and the perfect amount of sweetness and angst to match. I absolutely love this book, and will be re-reading it soon!
Overall Rating: 4.5 Stars
Writing Style: 5 Stars- Carrie continues to increase her skills in writing as we get into this sweet, angsty read. I love her style!
Descriptions/Scenery/Setting: 4 Stars- Carrie seemed to lose the extra touch of editing in and out of the book, so while some parts may be exquisitely and eloquently described, other parts just… fell away.
Plot/Story Line: 4 Stars- Don’t get me wrong, this book was lovely, but it was not carried out as far and deep as it could. It was a little shallow, and would either drag some parts on, or speed through a more important area.
Genre: Second Chance, Angst, High School Sweethearts, Tragic
Maturity Rating: New Adult
Would I recommend this book? Overall, yes, I admit I would. Carrie has created a gorgeous book, and her writing has grown exponentially.
What is unique about this book?
Blake has closed herself off from the world, content to live among the wild horses on the coast with minimal human interaction only. Though somewhat successful in her life, past wounds are fresh, especially after seeing the one man she wanted to never see again-- her first love, Carson.
Carson and Blake are both very broken and lonely characters. Both, having been affected by the same tragic event that ended their relationship, have fled their homes to return many years later. Upon their return at different time periods, they are immediately thrown back into each other's path, and they are forced to deal with repercussions of not only that night that altered the course of their lives but also the fallout of what happened from that night.
Carson is home, and back in the path of Blake's inescapable anger. Their past was never resolved, an open gash on his heart like the scars that still mar his skin. When they cross paths repeatedly--despite intending to avoid one another-- he pushes Blake into speaking of their past. They are somehow pulled together again, and you find yourself wondering if they’ll destroy each other, or heal was once was.
"Everything here reminded me of her. Relics of a lifetime ago. And what reminded me of her brought every last whispered thought of him back to life."
Carrie’s newer descriptive writing style in this emotional romance won me over. Ghost in His Eyes is unique in the way that it instead pulls the characters through their own grief before making the romance once again present. I was pulled into the past with flashbacks and pushed through the motions of life in the present as our hero and heroine struggle with grief and forgiveness. Carrie was able to establish the connection between all of the characters, heightening the effect of the loss of all the characters involved. Additionally, the authors words accurately convey the loss Blake and Carson experience, and the reader feels the heartbreak for all the losses that they have endured. Their road to healing is wrought with pain and confessions, but once they begin down this path, their happily-ever-after is just around the corner. There was a great mix of angst and sweetness, making you long for these lost lovers to find their middle ground after a shaky ten years. Eventually, the characters found comfort in one another after so long, and that despite life's pains both had managed to become independent individuals with realistic lives.
"His touch is both heaven and hell, it's repairing my bruised and broken heart and also slicing it ventricle from ventricle."
Ghost in His Eyes might just be my favorite Carrie Aarons release to date and I definitely recommend it to all my fellow readers that love a good cry over a romance novel. With beautiful prose, a unique setting, and a second chance romance that focuses on the healing powers of love, as readers follow two incredibly broken people who are trying to wade their way through tragedy to heal and live again.
Ghost in His Eyes is another beautifully written romance from Carrie Aarons. It is heartbreaking and gut-wrenching, but she ultimately leaves her reader with hope of what love can accomplish and achieve. Every single novel is original, with the special witty touch Carrie has a knack for when leaving her mark in the author community.
Enjoy this book! I certainly did!
